Scrooge . . .

. . . in real life . . .

(from http://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/americas-working-poor-face-pervasive-wage-theft-report-n261546)
". . . Between 3.5 percent and 6.5 percent of workers in New York and California — and between 11 percent and 12 percent of low-wage workers — are victims of wage theft when employers violate minimum wage laws, a newreport commissioned by the Department of Labor says. Workers in service industries fare the worst, and the report calls the problem "pervasive." The report estimates that violations cost workers in these two states between $20 million and $29 million in lost weekly income. This missing money makes a big difference in the lives and finances of workers, pushing 15,000 families below the poverty line. These findings come on the heels of a study conducted by the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute, which found that lawyers and regulators recovered nearly $1 billion that workers never received because of wage and hour violations in 2012. American taxpayers also pay the price, since wages that aren't paid don't contribute to tax revenues, and cheated workers rely more heavily on public assistance like food stamps. The report comes as union-backed protesters are staging strikes and rallies in 190 cities to advocate for a $15 hourly wage for fast food workers. . . "

Greedy. . .

. . . Bastards Prevail . . .

I understand the principle of compromise and the importance of it in the contact of the legislative branch of government.  And I understand that if this bill does not pass it will be more difficult to arrive at a reasonable one with the new congress as it tilts further to the right. But politicians who are in the pockets of giant banks (or other corporations) have absolutely NO right to talk about the lack of compromise in our current congress when the only compromise they want to see is one that succumbs to the well-heeled lobbyists working for those banks and corporations.  Compromise is, and will always be necessary in the process of making laws. But the laws should be of benefit to all the people and not just to a privileged, monied few.

(from NBCNews.com)
". . . Taking to the Senate floor Wednesday afternoon, Democrat Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts urged those in her party to oppose the spending bill because of the financial policy language, calling it "a giveaway to most powerful banks in this country." "This is a democracy, and the American people didn't elect us to stand up for Citigroup, they elected us to stand up for all the people," she said. . . "

This bill is dangerous in loosening up on the giant Banks.  Have we all forgotten 2007-2008?  Our banks managed to bring down the entire global economy.  Do we want to see that AGAIN??!!

Penned . . .

. . . by Jay (Graboski, of OHO) just before producing the aural jewel posted below . . .

Back to The Bratt this AM to mix "P.G.F." (Paleolithic Goddess Figurine") into completion. Basic tracks recorded at Steve Carr's (OHO bassist, Mach III, 1985-2002) Hit & Run Studio in the mid 90's and recently overdubbed at David's Blue Ball Road recording facility, inspired oddly enough, by Cher's character in "The Witches of Eastwick," compelled as she was to mold clay into countless PGF's, necessarily forcing the manifestation of Mr. D (Jack Nicholson). Let the dance begin (again)! "Here is a principal mythological role of the feminine principle. She gives birth to us physically, but she is mother too of our second birth--our birth as spiritual entities. This is the basic meaning of the 'virgin birth' (Merry Christmas!), that our bodies are born naturally, but at a certain time there awakens in us our spiritual nature, which is the higher human nature...In this sphere of the mystery dimension the woman represents the awakener, the giver of birth in that sense." -Joseph Campbell

Paleolithic Goddess Figurine
by John P. Graboski, performed by OHO - Jay Graboski, David Reeve and Ray Jozwiak and the frequently unmentioned but NEVER unappreciated-Bill Pratt

Brother . . .

I'll be your Blood Brother
By your side through thick and thin
I'll be your Blood Brother
Just as long as I don't have to bloody
My ha - ands

Bar rooms sure have a funny way
Of bringing loyalty out in a man
Buy a drink and tell a joke
And buddy you've got you a friend
But keep a good eye upon that friend
Because he really doesn't give two hoots
And don't say anything about his Mom
His girlfriend or his army boots

I'll be your Blood Brother
By your side through thick and thin
I'll be your Blood Brother
Just as long as I don't have to bloody
My ha - ands

Walked into an auto-mo-showroom
I need some wheels but got no money to spend
When a guy with an ugly tie
Walks out and acts like he's my long-lost friend
I said hey Buddy I've a purpose here
And if you please I will accomplish my goal
So don't you slap me on the back again
Cause if you do I might just lose my control

I'll be your Blood Brother
By your side through thick and thin
I'll be your Blood Brother
Just as long as I don't have to bloody
My ha - ands

So please be careful when you meet someone
Who'll make a promise at the drop of a hat
And don't provide them with encouragement
You will regret the day you offered him that
Cause everybody needs some empathy
But just how willing
And how far will they go
To really help you when the chips are down
Can they be trusted half as far as you throw them

I'll be your Blood Brother
By your side through thick and thin
I'll be your Blood Brother
Just as long as I don't have to bloody
My ha - ands

No Matter . . .

. . . how it's measured

. . . i can't be stopped

"I'm driving slow on Sunday morning And I never want to leave"

"Sunday bloody Sunday"

"Nothing to do but frown Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down."

"It's just another another Manic Monday"

"We used to meet every Thursday Thursday Thursday in the afternoon For a couple of beers and a game of pool"

"It's one o'clock and time for lunch, When the sun beats down and I lie on the bench, I can always hear them talk."

"So, help me if you can I've got to get back to the house at Pooh corner by one. "

"At One o'Clock the party starts jumpin' you know"

"I'm talking to the shadows Of one o'clock before And Lord how slow the months ago When all I do is pour Black coffee "

"She said, "Baby, you can trust me Baby, but you must be hidin' in my room At a quarter to two"

"Tick tick tock it's a quarter to two And I'm done I'm hanging up on you"
"And it's 1:45 And I'm feeling alive I've got it all And it's your last call"

"I'm sipping coffee at a quarter to two Awake and I'm dialing and my mind's running to you "

"Was it the talk or the drink or the dance that led to this Was I so naive presuming the innocence Well it's 1:54 and it's such an unusual kiss"

"At four of two, I stood waiting for the girl I was four minutes early for the date we had planned "

"It's 1:58, wish that I had been late And missed the train and given them an excuse But what is the use? I've less slack than a noose Do or die, stay or go, what should I choose?"

"I still remember the look on your face, lit through the darkness at 1:58..."

Not Mild . . .

. . . but Meek

(from wikepedia.com)
". . . Despite not being able to play a musical instrument or write notation, (Joe) Meek displayed a remarkable facility for writing and producing successful commercial recordings. In writing songs he was reliant on musicians such as Dave Adams, Geoff Goddard or Charles Blackwell to transcribe melodies from his vocal "demos". He worked on 245 singles, of which 45 were major hits (top fifty). He pioneered studio tools such as multiple over-dubbing on one- and two-track machines, close miking, direct input of bass guitars, the compressor, and effects like echo and reverb, as well as sampling. Unlike other producers, his search was for the 'right' sound rather than for a catchy musical tune, and throughout his brief career he single-mindedly followed his quest to create a unique "sonic signature" for every record he produced.

At a time when many studio engineers were still wearing white coats and assiduously trying to maintain clarity and fidelity, Meek, was producing everything on the three floors of his "home" studio and was never afraid to distort or manipulate the sound if it created the effect he was seeking. Meek was one of the first producers to grasp and fully exploit the possibilities of the modern recording studio. His innovative techniques—physically separating instruments, treating instruments and voices with echo and reverb, processing the sound through his fabled home-made electronic devices, the combining of separately-recorded performances and segments into a painstakingly constructed composite recording—comprised a major breakthrough in sound production.  . .

. . . In 1993, former session singer Ted Fletcher introduced the Joemeek line of audio processing equipment. The homage to Meek was due to his influence in the early stages of audio compression. The name and product line were sold to the American company PMI Audio Group in 2003. The current product line includes a microphone series called "Telstar", named after Meek's biggest hit. Meek's reputation for experiments in recording music was acknowledged by the Music Producers Guild who created The Joe Meek Award for Innovation in Production in 2009. MPG chairman Mike Howlett said the award was "paying homage to this remarkable producer's pioneering spirit". The winner of the inaugural award in 2009 was producer and musician Brian Eno. Meek was ranked the greatest producer of all time by NME. . ."
