Nixon-esque. . .

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-goes-sweeping-house-investigation-russia-his-finances-n968701)
". . .  Trump, in Nixon-esque fashion, attacked the ongoing investigations he faces during his State of the Union address. . ."If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation," he said. "It just doesn't work that way!" In his last State of the Union address, in 1974, President Richard Nixon called for an end to the Watergate probe. He would resign as a result of it later that year. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters after a Democratic Caucus meeting on Wednesday that Trump's comment "was a threat." "The president should not bring threats to the floor of the House," she said, adding, "He said he wasn’t going to cooperate unless we didn’t exercise our constitutional responsibility to oversight." "The bottom line is that we are as a country, we've always had Congress do oversight over the executive branch," (Chuck) Schumer said. "That's how the Founding Fathers set it up.". . . "And the president says if you investigate me I'm not going to make progress," he said. "That's already doing what he did with the shutdown. Holding the American people hostage. He's got something to hide. Because if he had nothing to hide, he'd just shrug his shoulders and let these investigations go forward. He's afraid of them.". . . "

Distortion . . .

(from https://ontheaside.com/uncategorized/a-brief-history-of-guitar-distortion/)
". . . One of the most famous examples – and arguably the first international hit song that used heavy distortion – was “You Really Got Me” by The Kinks (1962), for which guitarist Dave Davies slashed holes in his speaker cones with a razor. . .The funny thing about distortion is that it shouldn’t, by any normal standards, actually sound good. Until this point, sound engineers had spent decades trying to avoid distortion and produce perfectly clear, unaltered waves on record. But they didn’t consider that distorted signals, when used properly, can actually create beautiful overtones and a warm sound that helps to fill a sonic space and adds to the expressiveness of an instrument. Tubes make especially nice tones from overdriven signals because they keep rounded waves and crests, unlike solid state distortion, which cuts off the signal and flattens it. This is why the vast majority of guitarists still use tube amps today, and why a distortion on a solid-state amp or a pedal by itself can easily sound thin and cold. . ."

Achievement . . .

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/trump-approved-government-shutdown-fitting-end-paul-ryan-s-disappointing-ncna951176)
". . . in 2017, (Rep. Speaker of the House, Paul) Ryan led the charge for more tax cuts that the Congressional Budget Office estimated will increase deficits by nearly $2 trillion. The tax bill was arguably one of the biggest special-interest giveaways in modern history. Ryan called it his biggest achievement. . ."

Compromise . . .

. . . is Essential . . . in life.   Why not in government?

An excerpt from a CBS 60 Minutes interview with Representative John Boehner, who was then about to become Speaker of the House following the Republican success in the 2010 congressional elections:

JOHNBOEHNER: It means working together.

LESLEYSTAHL: It also means compromising.

[ . . . ]

BOEHNER: I made clear I am not going to compromise on my principles, nor am I going to compromise . . . the will of the American people.

STAHL: And you’re saying, “I want common ground, but I’m not going to compromise.” I don’t understand that. I really don’t.

BOEHNER: When you say the word “compromise”. . . a lot of Americans look up and go, “Uh-oh, they’re going to sell me out.”

[ . . . ]

STAHL: . . . you did compromise [to get all the Bush tax cuts made permanent]?

BOEHNER: . . . we found common ground. STAHL: Why won’t you say–you’re afraid of the word.

BOEHNER: I reject the word.2

Call Them Out . . .

(from http://www.politicususa.com/2015/01/25/boehner-mcconnell-bomb-60-minutes-asked-gop-alternative-obamacare.html#ajaxed-comments)
". . . Speaker of the House John Boehner and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell delivered a disastrous appearance on 60 Minutes, the lowlight of which was their complete inability to discuss the Republican alternative to Obamacare. Speaker Boehner went on a dodge and weave filibuster when asked what the Republican alternative to Obamacare was, “Providing more access we could have done without taking control of the entire healthcare system. . . For those who don’t have access to affordable health insurance. Helping those at the bottom I think we’re all for it, but we don’t need Washington to ruin the greatest health delivery system that the world has ever known.”

Pelley kept hammering away . . ."

But obviously hammering is relative because how can any respected journalist allow the statement,
". . . ruin the greatest health delivery system that the world has ever known” slip by without calling them out??!!

Thinking of B3s. . .

. . . not B47s

(from wikipedia.com)
The Hammond organ was invented by Laurens Hammond and John M Hanert and first manufactured in 1935. Various models were produced, which originally used tonewheels to generate sound via additive synthesis, where component waveform ratios are mixed by sliding drawbars. Around 2 million Hammond organs have been manufactured, and it has been described as one of the most successful organs ever. The organ is commonly used with, and associated with, the Leslie speaker.

The organ was originally marketed and sold by the Hammond Organ Company to churches as a lower-cost alternative to the wind-driven pipe organ, and as an alternative to the piano. It quickly became popular with professional jazz musicians, who found it to be a cheaper alternative to the big band. Jimmy Smith's use of the Hammond B-3, with its additional harmonic percussion feature, inspired a generation of organ players, and its use became more widespread in the 1960s and 1970s in rhythm and blues, rock and reggae, as well as being an important instrument in progressive rock.

The Hammond Organ Company struggled financially during the 1970s as they abandoned tonewheel organs and switched to manufacturing instruments using integrated circuits. These instruments never caught on with notable musicians and groups as the tonewheels had done before, and the company went out of business in 1985. The Hammond name was purchased by Suzuki Musical Instrument Corporation who proceeded to manufacturer digital simulations of the most popular tonewheel organs. This culminated in the production of the "New B-3" in 2002, which provided an accurate recreation of the original B-3 organ using modern digital technology.

Hammond-Suzuki continues to manufacturer a variety of organs for both the professional player and the church. Other companies, such as Korg, Roland and Clavia have also achieved success in providing emulations of the original tonewheel organs. The sound of a tonewheel Hammond can also be emulated in modern software such as Native Instruments B4.
