Cookies . . .

. . . and such . . .

(http://www.lsunow.com/daily/opinion-trending-metoo-movement-hindered-by-recent-false-accusations/article_ab67a200-ff25-11e7-be1b-7766e6b2542e.html by Abigail Varnado)
". . . if someone offers you a cookie and you eat it, then it is a consensual act of eating that cookie. If you don’t want to eat the cookie, then you have the ability to say “no” to eating the cookie and to not eat it. If someone forces you to eat the cookie, or if you are not conscious to accept the cookie, that is not a consensual act of eating the cookie, and the person forcing it is in the wrong. . . If someone offers you a cookie, and you are thinking you shouldn’t eat it because you are on a diet or don’t feel comfortable, then don’t eat it. If you eat it anyway, that is still a consensual act of eating the cookie. You chose to eat the cookie. If you regret eating the cookie the next day, it does not count as a non-consensual act of cookie eating. The person offering the cookie cannot read your mind and understand that you are uncomfortable, so he or she is not to blame for your consumption of those calories. . ."

Not So Much. . .

. . . a regret, but simply an observation . . .

Things imagined
Things desired
Youth's imagination
From so countless
Directions fired

But life is truly
Not one taken lightly
So gravity inevitably
Exercises its option
Sometimes not so slighly

And dreams
Although good
Must be relegated
Back further in the queue
Relinquishing where it formerly stood

As the end fast approaching
Wants to now get acquainted
and the years have provided
Many lessons to mull
Seems that life is quite good
When you're proud of your choices
But the brain can't help ponder
Each leap and each lull

Think?. . .

. . . maybe this guy HAS SOMETHING????. . .

(From http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2017/10/jeff-flake-just-delivered-the-most-impassioned-rebuke-of-donald-trump/)
". . . “I rise today with no small measure of regret,” Flake said from the Senate floor, his voice at times cracking. “Regret, because of the state of our disunion, regret because of the disrepair and destructiveness of our politics, regret because of the indecency of our discourse, regret because of the coarseness of our leadership, regret for the compromise of our moral authority, and by our—all of our—complicity in this alarming and dangerous state of affairs. . . “It is time for our complicity and our accommodation of the unacceptable to end,” he continued. . ."

In Some Ways . . .

. . . I actually sympathize with Palin.   I've been in situations where I was unprepared for what I was to face and certainly regretted the way in which I reacted . . .

(from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Palin_interviews_with_Katie_Couric)
". . . COURIC: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this—to stay informed and to understand the world?

PALIN: I've read most of them again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media, coming f—

COURIC: But like which ones specifically? I'm curious that you—

PALIN: Um, all of 'em, any of 'em that, um, have, have been in front of me over all these years. Um, I have a va—

COURIC: Can you name a few?

PALIN: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America. . . "

. . . but then, I wasn't running for the office of Vice President of the United States of America either . . .

Paraphrasing . . .

. . . 'Let him who is without sin among you be the first to cast a stone'. . .
Haven't we ALL done something in the past which we now thoroughly regret? . . .

(from http://www.businessinsider.com/before-dr-seuss-was-famous-he-drew-these-sad-racist-ads-2012-3)
". . .In his political cartoons (from the collection of the Springfield Library and Museums Association), (Dr.)Seuss inveighed against the Japanese during World War II; he drew them buck-toothed and squint-eyed. The images are depressing because they reveal that one of America's most original artist-authors had the same tired views of non-whites that his contemporaries did. . . He also expressed regret for his anti-Japanese views, according to filmmaker Ron Lamothe, who made The Political Dr. Seuss: "The only evidence I have comes from his biographers, who told me that years later—although still recognizing its necessity due to the war—he was regretful about some of his cartoons for PM and some of the propaganda work he did for the Army Signal Corps. I do think the fact he dedicated Horton Hears a Who—a parable about the American postwar occupation of Japan—to “My Great Friend, Mitsugi Nakamura of Kyoto, Japan,” says something of his changing attitudes toward the Japanese (this following a trip he made there in 1953). Though, as Richard Minear has pointed out, Horton Hears a Who still smacks of American chauvinism, and it makes no reference to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. . ."

(from Dr. Seuss created several offensive cartoons early in his career but began to atone for his previous views, producing several anti-racism illustrations and cartoons, notes the news site.)
". . . In a 1929 illustration for Judge magazine, he (Dr. Seuss) depicted black people for sale with a racist sign in the image's background  .  . According to BET, the illustration went to auction with a minimum bid of $20,000 in California . . . By the end, there hadn't been any bids, but it could receive a post-auction bid, according to Laura Yntema, the auction manager, according to the site. The drawing is one part of the four-part panel drawing Cross-Section of the World's Most Prosperous Department Store, the report notes. . ."

Too Much . . .

. . . wisdom?

. . . can't happen. . .

“The difference between a moral man and a man of honor is that the latter regrets a discreditable act, even when it has worked and he has not been caught.”
-H. L. Mencken

“When men exercise their reason coolly and freely on a variety of distinct questions, they inevitably fall into different opinions on some of them.  When they are governed by a common passion, their opinions, if they are so to be called, will be the same.”
-Alexander Hamilton
