Star . . .

You're a star.
Where you wanted to be,
You now are.
From afar
You appear not too different
Than me.
But the scars
You've acquired
Did not come free.

Had I tried.
Had I done all I could
With all my might.
Would the ride
Give return on the price
Which was required?
Cast aside
Any thoughts of security
in my life.

Reality . . .

. . . NOT reality tv, but reality economics . . .

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/fact-checking-trump-no-tariff-man-china-doesn-t-foot-n943686)
"The people who are purchasing foreign goods are paying tariffs," said Columbia Business School professor Amit Khandelwal, who teaches on international trade. . . If you went to an electronics store right now and bought a foreign-made, big screen television hit by tariffs, the sale price will likely include a sizeable price hike thanks to the U.S. tariff — potentially to the tune of hundreds of dollars.

Working . . .

Two hour aloe baths run by James
He answers the telephone when it rings
Dinner and caviar in the sun or rain
The glass and mimosa trees make it all the same
Four vintage autos
Summer house and a private plane
So much to desire
Would be nice but you won't hear me complain

I'll keep on working
Working that's how my life has got to be
I'll keep on working that's how it must be for me
I'll keep on working
Working until my work's all through
To be with you
To be with you

It's off to Ibiza now for a weekend fling
To have the ability to do these things
Italian designer names in my sleeves and cuffs
In spite of such easy means life can be so tough
Four vintage autos
Summer house and a private plane
So much to desire
Would be nice but you won't hear me complain

I'll keep on working
Working that's how my life has got to be
I'll keep on working that's how it must be for me
I'll keep on working
Working until my work's all through
To be with you
To be with you

But one mane's treasure is not to all the same
These things of value like prizes in some game

Do you think the measure of any man should be
How much and how man things he as materially
What price for your sanity how much will you pay
Will these things be here awhile will they fade away
Four vintage autos
Summer house and a private plane
So much to desire
Would be nice but you won't hear me complain

I'll keep on working
Working that's how my life has got to be
I'll keep on working that's how it must be for me
I'll keep on working
Working until my work's all through
To be with you
To be with you

Neat . . .

. . . or NOT!

(from http://gothamist.com/2013/02/08/neat_upsell_restaurant_caught_charg.php)
'. . . And one of the worst trends in modern bartending, the neat upsell, continues! In a harrowing story on Bussinessweek, Devin Leonard tells of the time he recently ordered a $13 Woodford bourbon neat at BLT Burger and, upon seeing the bill, realized he'd been charged an extra $2 for having his drink without ice. . . Leonard was understandably shocked by the idea of being charged for not having frozen water in his drink and complained. After being told by a manager that "everybody does it," he finagled himself a free second pour and something to ponder: Is this really common practice?
. . . (at) the Bartender Boot Camp, a bartender instruction center in New York, (one instructors) said he’d never heard of the practice, (another) said the only time she’d done it was when she worked in a restaurant in a catering hall. They would charge two dollars. She got complaints all the time. . . people need to just list the price of their drinks! . . . "

Reptilian. . .

. . . rule (an insult to a noble species, indeed!)

(from No One Left To Lie To; The Values of the Worst Family by Christopher Hitchens)
". . . The impression has been allowed to solidify that there was no price to be paid for all this; that the very definition of political skill was an ability to act without conscience. Appalled by the sheer raw ruthlessness of the President and his defenders, the Republicans and the conservative churches decided to call it a day. Marvin Olasky, the born-again Rightist who had originated the idea of "welfare reform" and been at Newt Gingrich's elbow, wrote a book on Presidential morality in which he said that if only Clinton had been a more regular churchgoer, and would even now ask for God's mercy, all might be well. It was not only liberals who failed the test set by Clintonism: The world of the "prayer breakfast" was is ally as surely as were the boardrooms and the Dow Jones. But millions of Americans still realized that something had been lost in the eight years of reptilian rule. . ."

Scrooge . . .

. . . in real life . . .

(from http://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/americas-working-poor-face-pervasive-wage-theft-report-n261546)
". . . Between 3.5 percent and 6.5 percent of workers in New York and California — and between 11 percent and 12 percent of low-wage workers — are victims of wage theft when employers violate minimum wage laws, a newreport commissioned by the Department of Labor says. Workers in service industries fare the worst, and the report calls the problem "pervasive." The report estimates that violations cost workers in these two states between $20 million and $29 million in lost weekly income. This missing money makes a big difference in the lives and finances of workers, pushing 15,000 families below the poverty line. These findings come on the heels of a study conducted by the left-leaning Economic Policy Institute, which found that lawyers and regulators recovered nearly $1 billion that workers never received because of wage and hour violations in 2012. American taxpayers also pay the price, since wages that aren't paid don't contribute to tax revenues, and cheated workers rely more heavily on public assistance like food stamps. The report comes as union-backed protesters are staging strikes and rallies in 190 cities to advocate for a $15 hourly wage for fast food workers. . . "

Analysts say . . .

. . . that the price of gasoline in Maryland could reach four dollars per gallon by Memorial Day.

Seems to me that whenever 'analysts' (as reported by our dear, respected media) SAY something about an increase in the price of gasoline, it comes true.

Is that particularly good ANALYSIS?  Or are the 'analysts' really oil industry payees simply 'preparing' us for the inevitable?

Dangerous. . .

. . . write, call, shout NOW!!!

SOPA and PIPA put the burden on website owners to police user-contributed material and call for the unnecessary blocking of entire sites. Small sites won't have sufficient resources to defend themselves. Big media companies may seek to cut off funding sources for their foreign competitors, even if copyright isn't being infringed. Foreign sites will be blacklisted, which means they won't show up in major search engines. SOPA and PIPA build a framework for future restrictions and suppression.

In a world in which politicians regulate the Internet based on the influence of big money, Wikipedia — and sites like it — cannot survive.

Congress says it's trying to protect the rights of copyright owners, but the "cure" that SOPA and PIPA represent is worse than the disease. SOPA and PIPA are not the answer: they will fatally damage the free and open Internet.

The entertainment industry understandably feels threatened, and well they should.  But instead of forcing potential consumers to pay for the crap they come up with why don't they explore improving the quality, the delivery and the price of their PRODUCT!!!!
