Nobody . . .

.
 . . want to abolish the police! . . .

(from https://www.brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/2020/06/19/what-does-defund-the-police-mean-and-does-it-have-merit/)
". . . “Defund the police” means reallocating or redirecting funding away from the police department to other government agencies funded by the local municipality. That’s it. It’s that simple. Defund does not mean abolish policing. And, even some who say abolish, do not necessarily mean to do away with law enforcement altogether. Rather, they want to see the rotten trees of policing chopped down and fresh roots replanted anew. Camden, New Jersey, is a good example. Nearly a decade ago, Camden disbanded (abolished) its police force and dissolved the local police union. . ."

And My Bridge . . .

. . . was recently stolen. . .

(from http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/5800-Bottle-of-Wine-Bordeaux-Stolen-from-Mystic-Restaurant-335858541.html)
". . . A nearly $5,000 bottle of Bordeaux disappeared from a Mystic restaurant and police have released surveillance video of the man they think stole it.
The surveillance video from the Octagon Steakhouse, at the Mystic Marriott, in Groton, taken around 2:15 p.m. on Monday, shows a man pace back and forth in the empty dining room a few times, then walk into the wine room. Staff later discovered that a bottle of 1990 Chateau Petrus was gone.
In 2014, a case containing 12 bottles of the wine sold at a Sotheby’s wine auction in New York for $45,938, according to Bloomberg. Police ask anyone with information about the wine theft to call Officer Wilczek at 860-441-6712 and refer to case 15-2921-OF or submit a tip online. . ."

The Lengths . . .

. . . some take for an 'afterlife' . . .

I had no idea that in certain parts of China, there are services available providing strippers to appear at funeral services in order to attract more people.  The logic is, the greater the crowd, the greater reward awaits the deceased in the afterlife.  The government is working with the police to crack down on such practices.

If Not Now . . .

. . . WHEN?

We will most likely hear of this type of situation in many more American cities before any meaningful change occurs.  But it will.  It has to.  The time has come.  The time is now.

". . . Protesters angry over the death of Freddie Gray got into physical altercations with police Saturday night in downtown Baltimore near the city's famed baseball stadium.

Some of the hundreds who confronted lines of police officers got into shoving matches with helmeted cops while other demonstrators threw objects. At least five police cars were damaged by people who smashed windows and jumped on them.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said she was profoundly disappointed by the violence, adding that 95% of the protesters were respectful but a "small group of agitators intervened."

Twelve people were arrested, Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said. . ."

Meet Me at the Pizza Bar Tariq . . .

(from Tradewindsnews.com)
"It appears that a relaxing luxury cruise to Turkey is a good way of preparing for the hardships of fighting in the wasteland of Kobane. The international police organization, Interpol, is calling for airline security checks to be extended to cruise lines as some of those hoping to fight in Syria and Iraq are now going by sea. Interpol's counter terrorism chief, Pierre St Hilaire, said there was evidence that jihadis were taking cruise ships to the Turkish port of Izmir. Carnival’s Costa Crociere subsidiary, MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line are among the operators offering voyages that include calls at Izmir. St Hilaire had no details about how many would be jihadis were taking a cruise to war but up to 15,000 foreign fighters are reported to have joined Islamic State and other groups fighting in Syria and Iraq. "Because they know the airports are monitored more closely now, there's a use of cruise ships to travel to those areas," added St Hilaire. Interpol wants to extend its I-Checkit program that allows airlines to check passenger information to cruise lines and others that might be able to detect extremists going off to fight. But the trade body, Cruise Lines International Association, claims that shipping companies are already taking security as seriously as the airline industry."

Serious ?. . .

When seeking advice on a serious topic, it only follows that you approach a "serious expert" on said topic.   DOESN'T IT??!!

(from http://townhall.com/columnists/larryelder/2012/07/26/yes_guns_kill_but_how_often_are_they_used_in_selfdefense)
" . . . Asked by a London news anchor about America's gun culture, Ice-T said: "Well, I'd give up my gun when everybody does. Doesn't that make sense? ... If there were guns here, would you want to be the only person without one?"

Anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Channel 4 News: "So do you carry guns routinely at home?"

Ice-T: "Yeah, it's legal in the United States. It's part of our Constitution. You know, the right to bear arms is because that's the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It's to protect yourself from the police."

Anchor: "And do you see any link between that and these sorts of (Aurora-type) incidents?"

Ice-T: "No. Nah. Not really. You know what I'm saying, if somebody wants to kill people, you know, they don't need a gun to do it."

Anchor: "It makes it easier, though, doesn't it?"

Ice-T: "Not really. You can strap explosives on your body. They do that all the time."

Anchor: "So when there's the inevitable backlash of the anti-gun lobby, as a result of this instance, as there always is--"

Ice-T: "Well, that's not going to change anything. ... The United States is based on guns." . . ."

Out of the mouths. . .

 . . . of babes. . .

We will reap just what we sow.  Unless we see drastic change in the NRA and improve our good judgement, we will reap more and more of this. . .

An 11-year-old sixth-grade student in Utah is in police custody after he was accused of bringing a gun to school because he wanted to protect himself in the event of a school shooting.  He wanted to defend himself if there was an incident similar to what happened in Newtown, CT.

Some witnesses claim the boy brandished the gun on the playground and pointed it at another child's head and others said the boy verbally threatened another student with the gun. Police have not yet been able to confirm these accounts.

The boy also had ammunition, although the gun was not loaded and it was not immediately clear whether the bullets were the appropriate ammunition for the gun which he obtained from an extended family member who moved out of the family’s house last week. He was suspended from the school, will probably face severe criminal penalties and will never be allowed back into the traditional school setting.

Objective . . .

. . . ???  Not quite.  Take your pick. . .

 1.  It is a depressing thing that in this day and age the police allow trash like this to think it is alright to threaten officers, throw things, knock down barricades, refuse lawful orders, etc.  There is only one way to put a stop to this kind of lawlessness and that is with a stern warning followed by force, deadly if necessary.  Then the message may get through. No you are not allowed to riot, destroy property and incite riots. The ringleaders of this kind of thing need to do serious jail time.

2.  After the veterans spoke and descended the stage, protesters milled about for a bit, trying to figure out their next move. That's when CPD suddenly accelerated aggressively. Initially, no order for dispersal was given, when suddenly police arrived in what can only be described as souped-up riot gear that gave the officers the appearance of Storm Troopers. CPD appeared ready for a violent confrontation with protesters, which of course became a self-fulfilling prophecy. Police attacked protesters, clubbing them across their heads with billy clubs, and generally shoving activists around. At least two protesters were badly injured. "Just saw protesters gushing blood from head," independent journalist John Knefel tweeted, "Photog witnessed it, called it terrifying."

3.  I look forward to reviewing their video evidence, because what I've seen and what my media colleagues on the front lines are reporting is that protesters were given considerable latitude to express their views in rallies and marches, then fought back when police tried slowly to move them back to try to disperse the crowd. It looked like every third person in the crowd was shooting video, so we ought to have ample evidence from multiple angles if officers engaged in unprovoked attacks.  And some may have. YouTube links welcome.

4.  Most protesters have left the area, while a small number have been detained. Police in riot gear have corralled the protesters in an intersection about a half-mile from the lakefront convention center where President Barack Obama is hosting a gathering of world leaders. There are now many more police officers on the scene than protesters. The confrontation began when some protesters dressed all in black are trying to move east toward McCormick Place. Some were throwing water bottles at police, and some officers responding by hitting protesters with batons.

Good Work!!. . .

. . . Kudos to the Baltimore City Police for no use of violence.
Kudos to Occupy Baltimore for no use of violence.
So camping is out, but a spokesman for OB said last night
that this movement is about much more than a small piece
of real estate. I for one, am glad to hear it.
---------------------------------------------------
(from WBAL.com)
"City police officers closed downtown streets overnight as officers in riot gear cleared McKeldin Square, the plaza where Occupy Baltimore protesters built an encampment.

Police closed Pratt Street and some surrounding streets just after 3 a.m. About 100 police officers were seen in the area and the Police Department's helicopter was seen flying above.

WBAL reporter Kim Dacey said police surrounded and entered the camp at about 3:30 a.m. City police began dismantling the tents at the downtown encampment at Pratt and Light streets, which had been "occupied" since October by participants of a nationwide movement mimicking Occupy Wall Street in New York City.

City police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told WBAL News that the scene was "extremely peaceful, very, very civil," and that the protesters were being moved to homeless shelters.

As of 5 a.m., Guglielmi said the process is still ongoing and that there would be more information shortly.

After police entered the square, some of the protesters left onto northbound Light Street, where police had also blocked the intersection with Lombard Street.

At 4 a.m., Dacey said some protesters told her that the action was mostly peaceful save for a few unspecified problems. Some of the protesters also said they had expected to get kicked out, but they didn't know it would be early Tuesday, Dacey said.

Unlike in other cities -- including Philadelphia, New York City, and Oakland, Calif. -- there were no significant clashes between the protesters and police reported.

The mayor's office issued the following statement:

"The City of Baltimore is committed to protecting individuals’ right to protest. However, our public parks and green-spaces should not be treated as permanent campgrounds and camping is prohibited. Individuals are free to peaceably assemble and demonstrate within the currently established guidelines. My administration is also committed to providing outreach and assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness.""
