My Own . . .

. . . damned fault . . .

(from http://nypost.com/2017/09/12/hillary-clintons-book-signing-was-as-insufferable-as-youd-expect/)
". . . Hillary's attendees (at a recent book signing) were willing to follow any directive. There were many, and here, in part, were the written instructions: "A limited number of wristbands for entry will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis with purchase of the featured title at Barnes & Noble Union Square. Hillary Rodham Clinton will sign copies of her new release, What Happened and the 2017 illustrated children's edition of It Takes a Village, no exceptions or personalizing. She will sign up to two books per customer, one of which must be What Happened. No other books or memorabilia please. Posed photos or selfies will not be taking place . . . Book purchase and wristbands are both required to meet the author, no exceptions. Customers without wristbands will not be allowed to participate in any capacity.". . ."

History . . .

. . . just in case you are local. . .

. . . but possibly even is you are not . . .

Our youngest is seeing a new doctor, about his back problems, who is located on Highland Avenue and Boston Street. The building is called the Atlantic Southwestern Broom Company. As soon as you walk into to the lobby, there are photos to your right from the building’s days as a broom factory.  One of the first photos you see is THIS ONE . . . (it's actually an uncle of ours who literally, not the current 'literally' but the literal 'literally', walked from his house up the hill (the street is a steep decline, or incline depending upon your perspective) every day to work.  A sweetheart of a guy, by the way . . .

A Picture . . .

. . . is worth a thousand words . . .

(from http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/2/12/1484056/-Celebrated-Photographer-Yes-That-Is-Bernie-Sanders-Time-Magazine-Is-Lying)
". . . The Clintons are resorting to their same old playbook from the 2008 campaign where Clinton aides circulated a photo of President Obama wearing a turban during his visit to a village to paint him as a Muslim sympathizer. And now they’re doing the same thing to Bernie Sanders in which Jonathan Capehart parroted the Clinton smear by saying this photo of Bernie Sanders is not real. It is because the photographer, Danny Lyon, who took photos of civil rights leaders in the 1960s was there, and he said that the photographs of Bernie Sanders he took are real. . ."

Fantasy . . .

. . . or dishonesty?. . .

Dear Wayne,
Just writing to say hello and to impart a smidgen of counsel, for what it's worth. Granted, your style of music and entertainment have never quite been my proverbial 'cup of tea' and I also allow that in terms of success, which in this context I will define narrowly as 'amount of money earned from practicing music as a livelihood' (and ONLY that), you have head and shoulders over most of us, accomplished a not insubstantial amount. But just between us I must say that I, for one, perceive a note of dishonesty in the promotional material for your recent show in Baltimore, MD.  I well understand the concepts of image, youth, vitality, machismo.  It does appear, however, that you fail to grasp the subtlety of the concept of honesty. When WAS this photo taken - 30 maybe 35 years ago? Wayne! . . . Baby! . . . What were you thinkin'?

May I suggest that since fantasy appears to be the underlying theme in your promotional efforts these days, why don't you simply use the suggested image I have posted here in your advertising from now on?

Photos . . .

(from http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/11/politics/e-mail-photos-destroyed-osama-bin-laden/index.html?hpt=hp_t2)
Within two weeks of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, the head of U.S. special forces issued orders that all photos of the body be either turned in or destroyed, a newly released document shows.

In an e-mail dated May 13, 2011, then-Vice Adm. William McRaven wrote the following: "One particular item that I want to emphasize is photos; particularly UBLs remains. At this point -- all photos should have been turned over to the CIA; if you still have them destroy them immediately or get them to the [redacted.]"

The e-mail was obtained by the conservative activist group Judicial Watch, which has called for the public release of photos of the raid in Pakistan that killed the al Qaeda leader. The e-mail, which was almost entirely redacted, was released under a Freedom of Information Act request.

. . . but . . .

(from http://www.corbettreport.com/osama-bin-laden-pronounced-dead-for-the-ninth-time/)
When Obama pronounced Osama Bin Laden dead in a televised announcement heard round the world May 1, 2011, he was at least the ninth major head of state or high-ranking government official to have done so.

On December 26, 2001, Fox News reported on a Pakistan Observer story that the Afghan Taliban had officially pronounced Osama Bin Laden dead earlier that month. According to the report, he was buried less than 24 hours later in an unmarked grave in accordance with Wahabbist Sunni practices.

What followed was a string of pronouncements from officials affirming what was already obvious: supposedly living in caves and bunkers in the mountainous pass between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Osama would have been deprived of the dialysis equipment that he required to live.

On January 18, 2002, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf announced quite bluntly: “I think now, frankly, he is dead.”

On July 17, 2002, the then-head of counterterrorism at the FBI, Dale Watson, told a conference of law enforcement officials that “I

Osama Bin Laden in December 2001

personally think he [Bin Laden] is probably not with us anymore,” before carefully adding that “I have no evidence to support that.”

In October 2002, Afghan President Hamid Karzai told CNN that “I would come to believe that [Bin Laden] probably is dead.”

In November 2005, Senator Harry Reid revealed that he was told Osama may have died in the Pakistani earthquake of October that year.

In September 2006, French intelligence leaked a report suggesting Osama had died in Pakistan.

On November 2, 2007, former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto told Al-Jazeera’s David Frost that Omar Sheikh had killed Osama Bin Laden.

In March 2009, former US foreign intelligence officer and professor of international relations at Boston University Angelo Codevilla stated: “All the evidence suggests Elvis Presley is more alive today than Osama Bin Laden.”

In May 2009, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari confirmed that his “counterparts in the American intelligence agencies” hadn’t heard anything from Bin Laden in seven years and confirmed “I don’t think he’s alive.”

Rotos . . .

. . . one example of the multiple and various influences upon my music is "Easter Parade" which I detected recently in a new composition . . . and of course, one thing leads to another and I began to sing to myself and pondered the rotogravure . . .

(from wikipedia.com)
In the last quarter of the 19th century, the method of image photo transfer onto carbon tissue covered with light-sensitive gelatin was discovered, and was the beginning of rotogravure. In the 1930s–1960s, newspapers published relatively few photographs and instead many newspapers published separate rotogravure sections in their Sunday editions. These sections were devoted to photographs and identifying captions, not news stories. Irving Berlin's song "Easter Parade" specifically refers to these sections in the lines "the photographers will snap us, and you'll find that you're in the rotogravure". And the song "Hooray for Hollywood" contains the line "…armed with photos from local rotos" referring to young actresses hoping to make it in the movie industry.

In 1932 a George Gallup "Survey of Reader Interest in Various Sections of Sunday Newspapers to Determine the Relative Value of Rotogravure as an Advertising Medium" found that these special rotogravures were the most widely read sections of the paper and that advertisements there were three times more likely to be seen by readers than in any other section.

A good laugh. . .

 . . . in celebration
. . . of McCartney's birthday.

There is actually a website (http://digilander.libero.it/jamespaul/fc1.html) with painful, and I do mean painful detail, purporting to prove that Paul McCartney died in 1966.  The case is made purely by comparing a small number of poor quality photos and claiming that skull shape does not change.  They neglect to say that they are actually comparing full head shape including hair.

Fascinating . . . NOT!
