Super . . .

Should every man yield to the yearning unashamed
Without hypocrisy and wastefulness;
Squander the strength he’s been endowed with;
Feign superiority as tunnel vision’s all he sees?

I’m trying to develop a superman;
Dionysus evolving into perfect humanity.

Gadding about helping each other get along
Won’t make us build the kind of man I see.
Inferiors are weak copies of betters
Printed on bad paper from old and worn-out plates now gone.

Selection, survivors mastering;
Bettering the species, irrespective of
Everything you’ve ever learned
About what’s right or wrong.

You hear the word, you’re quoting scripture that you learned
Originating from a deity.
But should that motivate your actions?
Such self-serving rewarding scheme.
Yours or mine, that’s what both seem.

Fine . . .

. . . tuning

Practice makes perfect.
Perfection is rare.
Some think they've seen it
When it really isn't there.

I'm not a perfectionist,
But she with whom I'm communing
Doesn't see that this obsession
Is only fine tuning.

Ideal . . .

. . . world? . . .

In an ideal world
We would offer what we do best
To whomever needed or wanted it
Without recompense
And in turn would
Receive what we needed (or wanted) most
Without cost from those that could provide it

No one would covet
What they did not need
No one would desire
More than they actually needed
All would readily offer help
To those in need
Not because of a mythological eternal reward
But simply because it is the correct thing to do

Practice . . .

. . . may make perfect . . .

. . . if perfect is what you want.  But even if that IS what you want, will you ever achieve it? Is ANYTHING really ever perfect anyway. I practice to develop ideas and to physically workout the fingers. Perfection is much too good in the way that Broadway musicals  contain too much singing and dancing. Also, perfection implies objectivity.  My music, as I believe of all music,  is strictly subjective. So here I go.  'Practicing' again.  This time reviewing some (what I think are) interesting changes that comprise my tune 'Wisdom'.

MORE. . .

. . . PERFECT!!. . .
(from John Adams by David McCullough)
". . . Of the potentially divisive threats to "the more perfect union," non surpassed slavery. The slave population, too, had burgeoned to nearly 700,000 men, women, and children who had no freedom whatever. There were slaves still in every state but one-only Massachusetts had eliminated slavery thus far-but with the overwhelming majority of slaves, full 500,000 centered in Maryland, Virginia, and the Carolinas, the difference between North and South was if anything greater than ever. . . Image . . .

(from https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3956.Christopher_Hitchens)
"God did not create man in his own image. Evidently, it was quite the other way about, which is the painless explanation for the profusion of gods and religions, and the fratricide both between and among faiths, that we see all about us and that has so retarded the development of civilization."

Practice . . .

. . . makes
. . . perfect . . .

“Practice doesn't make perfect.
Practice reduces the imperfection.”
― Toba Beta

“Practice makes the master.”
― Patrick Rothfuss

“No matter how much falls on us, we keep plowing ahead. That's the only way to keep the roads clear.”
― Greg Kincaid

“If you want to find the real competition, just look in the mirror. After awhile you'll see your rivals scrambling for second place.”
― Criss Jami, Killosophy

“It is a mistake to think that the practice of my art has become easy to me. I assure you, dear friend, no one has given so much care to the study of composition as I. There is scarcely a famous master in music whose works I have not frequently and diligently studied.”
― Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

“Sex, whatever else it is, is an athletic skill. The more you practice, the more you can, the more you want to, the more you enjoy it, the less it tires you.”
― Robert A. Heinlein

Practice Makes . . .

. . . pretty good . . .

Being in a band whose members are deeply committed to self-expression through performing original music does NOT always bode well for live performance opportunities.  Therefore, the absence of regular and frequent execution of the musical pieces render the accuracy of occasional performances somewhat random.  But you know, they DO say that 'practice makes perfect' and that is, after all, that for which we are striving.  And though it may not yet be perfect, we at OHO are progressing significantly in dynamics, emotional subtleties and technical execution of Blood Brother as evidenced by this 'timeline' recording of live and rehearsal recordings pieced together for my own personal enjoyment. . .

. . . maybe yours too?!

New Consciousness. . .

(from "Reclaiming the Bible for a Non-Religious World" by John Shelby Spong,
 ©2011 John Shelby Spong)
". . . As post-Darwinians we now know that there never was a perfect creation.  All life has evolved from a single cell into our present self-conscious, enormously complex human life, which is, for the time being at least, at the top of the evolutionary ladder.  Since there was no perfect creation, then there could not have been a "fall" from perfection.  One cannot fall from a status one has never possessed.  If we have not fallen from perfection, we do not need to be saved, redeemed or rescued.  So the way Jesus has traditionally been interpreted vanishes into irrelevance.  One can artificially resuscitate a dying form only as long as the presuppositions undergirding that form are still believable.  The human experience, however, still cries out for some other explanation of this experience.  What is it?

We are self-conscious creatures.  All living things are survival-oriented.  Plants stretch to receive the light of the sun in order to live.  Animals fight for life or flee danger in order to survive.  Neither plant life nor animal life, however, is aware of its survival drive.  Human beings are.  When self-conscious creatures make their own survival their highest goal, they then organize their world around that need.

Paul's experience of human life was correct.  His explanation was wrong.  His experience of Christ as life-giving love was correct.  His explanation of how that love was manifested in Jesus' life was wrong.

Can one find salvation by being rescued from this fatal flaw in our humanity, as Paul seemed to believe?  I do not think so.  We can, however, find wholeness in the experience of being lifted beyond these boundaries.  I am now convinced that this experience of being lifted into a new consciousness was the heart of what the Jesus experience was and it is this experience alone to which Christians must witness. . . "

Perfection? . . .

. . . NAH!!!   But pretty damned good!

Have you seen the sunrise
Over the ocean
Out of the sea
Marvel at the notion
How can it be

Many are your bad times
That's what you tell me
That's how you feel
Seems they might as well be
But tell me
How do you know they're real

It's not a perfect world
This one that we're all living in
There's so much pain
And so much suffering here for you
It's not a perfect world
This one that we're all living in
That's just your pessimistic
Point of view

Can you feel the power
Of trees in the forest
Birds on the wing
Moving hour by hour
Mysterious thing
Gaze upon the mountains
Rising above us
Touching the sky
Can this power love us
You have your doubts
But you don't know why

It's not a perfect world
This one that we're all living in
There's so much pain
And so much suffering here for you
It's not a perfect world
This one that we're all living in
That's just your pessimistic
Point of view

How did you ever become so jaded
Now you can only see what you created
You're so blind
The more that you look the less that you find
It's your mind
You refuse to put faith into something sublime
On your time
Your convenience means everything

See this thing is bigger
It's bigger than we are
You have to admit
Think you've got it figured
You know where it fits
It's not scientific
You can't replicate it
It just can't be done
No one's ever faked it
Just have some hope
You're not the only one

It's not a perfect world
This one that we're all living in
There's so much pain
And so much suffering here for you
It's not a perfect world
This one that we're all living in
That's just your pessimistic
Point of view
