Your . . .

. . . 'public servants' at work . . .

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/first-read/republicans-tried-kill-obamacare-now-they-re-embracing-its-most-n921561)
". . . GOP Senate candidate Josh Hawley in Missouri: “We've got two perfect little boys. Earlier this year, we learned that our oldest has a rare chronic disease. Pre-existing condition – we know what that means,” he says to camera in a TV ad. “I support forcing insurance companies to cover ALL pre-existing conditions. And Claire McCaskill knows it. You deserve a senator who’s driven to fix this mess – not one just trying to hang on to her office.” . . . But as attorney general of Missouri, Hawley signed on to a conservative lawsuit in February 2018 arguing that Obamacare – and everything in it, including protections for pre-existing conditions – is unconstitutional. “Once the heart of the ACA—the individual mandate—is declared unconstitutional, the remainder of the ACA must also fall,” the lawsuit states. . . . . . Donald . . .

(from http://theweek.com/speedreads/730661/cbo-predicts-trumps-move-end-obamacare-subsidies-hike-premiums-uninsured-rate-deficits)
". . . On Thursday night, the Trump administration formally decided to end cost-sharing subsidies that the Health and Human Services Department has been paying insurers to lower premiums for millions of lower-income customers purchasing insurance through the Affordable Care Act exchanges. . . the CBO projected that "gross premiums (that is, before premium tax credits are accounted for) for silver plans offered through the marketplaces would, on average, rise by about 20 percent in 2018 relative to the amount in CBO’s March 2016 baseline and rise slightly more in later years." The number of uninsured would rise by about 1 million in 2018, though it would drop again as people purchased lower-cost plans, and because customers would be shielded from the premium hikes by larger federal subsidies, the federal deficit would rise by $194 billion over the next 10 years. . ."

Only Missing . . .

. . . the violins . . .

(from http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2016/jan/14/chelsea-clinton/chelsea-clinton-mischaracterizes-bernie-sanders-he/)
". . . Hitting the campaign trail on her mother’s behalf, Chelsea Clinton attacked Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders’ universal health care plan. . . "Sen. Sanders wants to dismantle Obamacare, dismantle the CHIP program, dismantle Medicare, and dismantle private insurance. . . I don't want to empower Republican governors to take away Medicaid, to take away health insurance for low-income and middle-income working Americans. And I think very much that's what Sen. Sanders' plan would do.". . . we decided to look into them (her claims) ourselves — in particular, her claim that Sanders’ plan would "empower" governors "to take away health insurance for low-income and middle-income working Americans.". . .  Given that Sanders’ proposed plan specifically calls health insurance an entitlement for all, we found that this is a mischaracteriza- tion at best. . . Sanders has called the [his] plan "Medicare for all," referring to the the health safety net that covers those over 65. . . she is . . .  right that states would be the primary administrators of the system. The bill calls it a "state-based American Health Security Program." However, the assertion that it would empower Republican governors to take away individual’s health insurance is misleading. . .Clinton’s statement makes it sound like Sanders’ plan would leave many people uninsured, which is antithetical to the goal of Sanders’ proposal: universal health care. . . We rate her claim Mostly False."

Supreme . . .

(from http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/first-read/supreme-court-just-handed-victory-obama-republicans-too-n381851 by Mark Murray)
". . . Had the Supreme Court invalidated the subsidies in some 30 states operating on the federal insurance marketplace, that would have affected nearly 6.4 million Americans, who would have seen their health costs skyrocket by about 300 percent. Republicans were ready to blame Obama for the potential chaos. But some of them acknowledged the GOP would get the brunt of the blame, especially since they backed the lawsuit challenging the subsidies. "[Obama will] have the ads all racked up with the individuals that have benefited from Obamacare on the backs of the American taxpayer," Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., admitted in an April interview. Republicans also had been divided on how to respond. Some like Johnson wanted to extend the subsidies for Americans - in exchange for repealing the law's individual mandate. But others were in favor of letting the subsidies die, full stop. . ."

Laugh . . .

Is is me or should this man (a tower of principled jello) be laughed out of the Presidential race . . .

Five years after the Affordable Care Act became law, one of its biggest opponents says he may be signing up.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, the first major candidate to enter the 2016 presidential race, is now shopping around for health coverage after his wife, Heidi, took a leave of absence from her job at Goldman Sachs to campaign with her husband. The unpaid leave does not include benefits.

"We will in all likelihood get health care through my employment, which means you end up going on to the exchange and getting health insurance," Cruz said during an appearance on the Mike Gallagher radio show Wednesday. Members of Congress without insurance are required to sign up through health care exchanges created by Obamacare because of an amendment to the law added by Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley.

However, Cruz said he would not accept a subsidy members of Congress are eligible for to help pay for coverage. "I'm going to purchase health insurance with my own funds for my family, like millions of Americans," he said.

The first-term senator became the face of GOP opposition to Obamacare in 2013 when he spoke for more than 21 hours on the Senate floor in opposition to the law. He urged his GOP colleagues not accept a government funding bill that kept Obamacare intact, setting in motion a 16-day partial government shutdown.

Call Them Out . . .

(from http://www.politicususa.com/2015/01/25/boehner-mcconnell-bomb-60-minutes-asked-gop-alternative-obamacare.html#ajaxed-comments)
". . . Speaker of the House John Boehner and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell delivered a disastrous appearance on 60 Minutes, the lowlight of which was their complete inability to discuss the Republican alternative to Obamacare. Speaker Boehner went on a dodge and weave filibuster when asked what the Republican alternative to Obamacare was, “Providing more access we could have done without taking control of the entire healthcare system. . . For those who don’t have access to affordable health insurance. Helping those at the bottom I think we’re all for it, but we don’t need Washington to ruin the greatest health delivery system that the world has ever known.”

Pelley kept hammering away . . ."

But obviously hammering is relative because how can any respected journalist allow the statement,
". . . ruin the greatest health delivery system that the world has ever known” slip by without calling them out??!!

Simplicity . . .

(with excerpts from http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/10/29/21237370-white-house-president-didnt-mislead-on-insurance-promise?lite)
The White House argued Tuesday that President Barack Obama didn’t mislead the public when he repeatedly promised Americans “If you like your health plan, you will be able to keep your health plan” under the Affordable Care Act.

Me: Yes, he DID mislead some Americans since he was speaking to ALL Americans when he said that.  Some liked their plans.  They ARE Americans. The President spoke to ALL Americans.  Those whose plans did NOT qualify must purchase a new one and CANNOT KEEP the old one which they liked.  (Is this fucking rocket science?)

“No, the president was clear about a basic fact,” Carney said Tuesday when asked directly whether Obama had misled Americans about the impact of his signature domestic achievement. “If you had insurance that you liked on the individual market, and you wanted to keep that insurance…you could.”

This part of the law does not apply to the 80 percent of Americans who receive health insurance through their employers or through Medicare or Medicaid.

Obamacare regulations estimate that, because of normal turnover in the individual insurance market, “40 to 67 percent” of customers will not be able to keep their policy.

Republicans have quickly seized upon the debate as further evidence in their longstanding case against “Obamacare.”

Me:  This is only one aspect of  the Affordable Care Act (it’s REAL name.)  If the President had not said ALL Americans, no misrepresentation would have taken place.  Affordable healthcare for ALL  Americans (I said AFFORDABLE- not the SAME,  not FREE, maybe even not CHEAP) is a good thing.  Laws can be amended and need not always be completely repealed.

“If the president knew that these letters were coming and still indicated that you could keep your health care plan if you liked it -- now, well that raises some serious questions about the sales job of Obamacare,” House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., said at a press conference on Capitol Hill.

“There is no way to fix this monstrosity,” Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said. He vowed that the GOP would continue to seek the law’s repeal, even after a 16-day government shutdown triggered by Republican demands that Obama defund his own health care law.

“The real problem is that people weren’t told the truth. You can remember they were told that they would be able to keep their policies if they like them, and now you hear hundreds of thousands of people across the country being told they couldn’t,” New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie

Speaking. . .

. . .  Wednesday in Virginia, (Mitt) Romney said that "if the court upholds it, if they say look it passes the Constitution, it still is bad policy and that'll mean if I'm elected we are going to repeal it and replace it."

“LOOK IT PASSES THE CONSTITUTION”?????  (Is that the best you've got MITT???!!!)

(from factcheck.org)
With the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act on June 28, voters are guaranteed to continue hearing the same old false claims about the law from politicians. And President Barack Obama and presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney wasted little time in taking to the airwaves to rehash plenty we’ve fact-checked before. Obama even threw in a few new claims.

Obama reiterated his “if you like your plan, you can keep your plan” refrain, despite the fact that at least a few million workers won’t keep their employer-sponsored plans, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

The president also exaggerated the benefits of the law, such as the number of young adults who were able to join their parents’ plans, thanks to the law, and the number of individuals who will receive rebates issued by insurance companies that didn’t spend enough premium dollars on health care.

Romney repeated a number of distortions, saying that the law would “cut Medicare” by $500 billion and that it “adds trillions to our deficits.” That’s a reduction in the future growth of Medicare spending over 10 years. And CBO says the law would reduce the deficit.

Romney said the law is a “job-killer.” But CBO says the law would have a “small” impact on jobs, mainly affecting the amount of labor workers choose to supply. Those getting subsidies, for instance, might work less hours since they’re paying less for health care.

Romney claimed the law “puts the federal government between you and your doctor.” The law would set minimum benefits packages, but medical services will not be government-run, nor does the law allow for rationing of care.
