Weather . . .

. . . is the almighty equalizer.

No one can escape it.  It is non-discriminatory.  It is the basis for 78.5% of all conversation among acquaintances, co-workers and strangers (BTW 75% of all statistics are made up on the spot) and it proliferates via all media; printed, electronic or otherwise.  'Weatherman' is actually a profession (or is it Weatherperson?) which is high profile and quite respectable in spite of the lack of any performance standards with the exception of 'good hair' and snappy clothes. Some folks have even taken it upon themselves to be all-consumed with the weather and utilize it not only as conversation but as an integral task incorporated into their daily routine. Activities are planned and cancelled, tempers are affected and reputations are built or destroyed . . .

. . . well, maybe not . . .

Graying . . .

 . . . heads . . .

(from http://www.loc.gov/rr/scitech/mysteries/grayhair.html)
". . . Parents often cite having teenagers as the cause of gray hair. This is a good hypothesis, but scientists continue to investigate why hair turns gray. In time, everyone’s hair turns gray. Your chance of going gray increases 10-20% every decade after 30 years. Initially, hair is white. It gets its natural color from a type of pigment called melanin. The formation of melanin begins before birth. The natural color of our hair depends upon the distribution, type and amount of melanin in the middle layer of the hair shaft or cortex.

Hair has only two types of pigments: dark (eumelanin) and light (phaeomelanin). They blend together to make up the wide range of hair colors.

Melanin is made up of specialized pigment cells called melanocytes. They position themselves at the openings on the skin’s surface through which hair grows (follicles). Each hair grows from a single follicle. . . the hair follicle has a “melanogentic clock” which slows down or stops melanocyte activity, thus decreasing the pigment our hair receives. This occurs just before the hair is preparing to fall out or shed, so the roots always look pale.

Moreover, Dr. Tobin suggests that hair turns gray because of age and genetics, in that genes regulate the exhaustion of the pigmentary potential of each individual hair follicle. This occurs at different rates in different hair follicles. . ."

Another . . .

 . . . project. . .

Every hair on your head
Has got to be in place
For the camera
Every place you happen to be
The people stare

You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
But oh
How you wanted to be

Don't equate each little thing
That happened in the past
To the present
Don't expect each person to see
The things you see

You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
But oh
How you wanted to be

Do you ever think of anyone else
Does concern come crossing your mind
There's enough conceit under your own belt
To last a lifetime

If your dream should ever come true
I'll see that spiteful face
On the cover
Of a tabloid where the headline reads
She wants to be

Nothing but the main attraction
Nothing but the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
But oh
How you wanted to be

You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
You are not the main attraction
But oh
How you wanted to be
But oh
How you wanted to be

The Main Attraction. . .

Every hair on your head has got to be in place for the camera. Every place you happen to be the people stare. But you are not the main attraction. You are not the main attraction. You are not the main attraction. But oh how you wanted to be.

Don't equate each little thing that happened in the past to the present. Don't expect each person to see the things you see 'cause you are not the main attraction. You are not the main attraction. You are not the main attraction. But oh how you wanted to be.

Do you ever think of anyone else? Does concern come crossing your mind. There's enough conceit under your own belt to last a lifetime.

If your dreams should ever come true, I'll see that spiteful face on the cover of a tabloid where the headline reads, "She wants to be. . . be. . . nothing but the main attraction." Nothing but the main attraction. You are not the main attraction. But oh how you wanted to be. But oh how you wanted to be.
