Class . . .

(from Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them:  A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right by Al Franken)
". . . Anytime a liberal points out that the wealthy are disproportionately benefiting from Bush's tax policies, Republicans shout, "class warfare!" . . . In her book A Distant Mirror: The Calamitous Fourteenth Century, Barbara Tuchman writes about a peasant revolt in 1358 that began in the village of St. Leu and spread throughout the Oise Valley. At one estate, the serfs sacked the manor house, killed the knight, and roasted him on a  spit in front of his wife and kids. Then, after ten or twelve peasants violate the lady, with the children still watching, they forced her to eat the roasted flesh of her husband and then killed her. . . That is class warfare. . .  Arguing over the optimal marginal tax rate for the top one percent is not. . . "

Management . . .

(from The First Tycoon; The Epic Life of Cornelius Vanderbilt by T.J. Stiles)
“. . . a superior who lacks real ability -or character-draws only scorn. In a quasi-military (or, more properly, quasi-naval) culture such as that of the merchant marine, a commander need not be sweet-tempered to be admired; rather he had to be skilled, knowledgeable, fair, and preferably tough. . . "

A Little . . .

. . . Smugly delivered, yet amusing . . .

(from http://townhall.com/columnists/derekhunter/2015/04/16/hillary-is-right-the-deck-is-stacked-n1985712/page/2)
". . . her bio reads like a love letter to a mirror, omitting facts, glossing over reality and claiming credit for everything short of the sunrise. That’s the Z of campaign she’s going to run, and that’s the kind of garbage the media will shovel out of their newscasts and onto their pages. . .“Americans have fought their way back from tough economic times, but the deck is still stacked in favor of those at the top,” she said. And she’s right. At least partially. “The deck is stacked against you” is an awful message that tells people not to bother trying because no matter how hard they work, they’ll never get ahead. . . it’s futile for anyone to expect a fair shake from the media for someone whose main accomplishment in life is having married Bill Clinton (then spent the next 40 years looking the other way) . . . a life-long enabler of a sexual predator who traded whatever integrity she had for power and money. She’s a bored has-been with a sense of entitlement unrivaled in American public life who can’t bring herself to leave the national stage. . . "

Lines . . .

. . . Written in Early Spring
BY WILLIAM WORDSWORTH

I heard a thousand blended notes,
While in a grove I sate reclined,
In that sweet mood when pleasant thoughts
Bring sad thoughts to the mind.

To her fair works did Nature link
The human soul that through me ran;
And much it grieved my heart to think
What man has made of man.

Through primrose tufts, in that green bower,
The periwinkle trailed its wreaths;
And ’tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes.

The birds around me hopped and played,
Their thoughts I cannot measure:—
But the least motion which they made
It seemed a thrill of pleasure.

The budding twigs spread out their fan,
To catch the breezy air;
And I must think, do all I can,
That there was pleasure there.

If this belief from heaven be sent,
If such be Nature’s holy plan,
Have I not reason to lament
What man has made of man?

Ever feel . . .

. . . like an outsider; . . .

. . . like you don't belong;  at least you don't belong to many things?  You have belonged to some things which you later learned you would rather not.  But you suppose that's simply a matter of your maturation process.

You feel like you're  pretending;  like you're playing charades;  like you're going through the motions.  You want to put your heart and soul into the things you do during the preponderance of your waking hours.  But you simply can't.  You're not cheating anybody;  you are devoting yourself to your daily tasks to the best of your abilities.

But you cannot deceive your own heart.  You can't pretend to love what you do not love.  You may do a respectable job of deceiving or deflecting any suspicion;  but you cannot pretend.   That's not to say that you are insincere or calculating.  You are honest, conscientious and devoted.  In a 'fair' supply and demand situation, you will (and do) deliver.

But how many are able to devote their waking hours to the pursuit of their heart's desire and provide for all the physical needs at the same time?  NOT MANY!  That you truly believe.

You feel the daily stresses of life just like anyone else.  You have your responsibilities and do not want to run from them.   You embrace your responsibilities.  And during the hours remaining when your 'workday' is over, you actually enjoy true happiness in all that you do.  TRUE happiness.

So it seems that you really are an outsider.  You can't or don't necessarily express yourself very well with regard to this dilemma and have very few people to whom you can express even a portion of this and only one to whom you can express it all.  But you think those aren't bad statistics.  At least you're happy with them.

Ever feel this way?   I have.

To my former. . .

. . .  cell phone provider who wants to stick me with any nickel and dime bill they can now that I have terminated my account. . . .

Though I terminated my account on 11/13/2011, I received invoices for "Monthly Service Charges" for the period 11/11/2011 - 12/10/2011 and 12/11/2011 - 1/10/2012 during which I was provided service for only the period 11/11/2011 through 11/13/2011 on four of the five phones under this family plan.  (The fifth phone had been dormant since July 2011 since my son had to contract an alternative provider as required by his new employer.)

I spoke to several of your customer service reps on 12/22/2011 culminating in my request to have the supervisor (Ram) call me, as he was unavailable and I had an appointment.  Ram did not return my call that day or afterward.

In addition, no customer service rep reminded or informed me on 12/22/2011 that the fifth  phone in the plan (mentioned above) must be cancelled, a courtesy, and I would hope responsibility of customer service under such circumstances.

I spoke again to customer service on 2/6/2012 at which time I was finally advised to cancel the fifth phone, which I did.

I am writing to assure you that I will pay you for service provided to me.  I always paid invoices in a timely manner and did, in fact, receive very good service (as well as customer service when sought) from your firm during my contract.  I am very disheartened though, at the uncooperative attitude I have received from your customer service department now that my account has been terminated.

In an effort to exhibit my good faith and hope that we can arrive at an agreement, I am enclosing a check for $14.79 which I presume will cover the period for which you did provide service (a portion of the the invoice for 11/11/2011 - 12/10/2011) up to the date That I terminated the account- 11/13/2011.  [$147.90 for 30 days, pro-rated to cover 3 days]

I believe this is more than fair and correct and I do hope to receive confirmation from you of your agreement soon.
