Denial . . .

. . . explained . . .

(from Al Franken, Giant of the Senate by Al Franken)
". . . Let's say you went to your doctor for a checkup, and he told you this: "Okay. You've got to go on a diet and stop smoking. You're fifty years old. You're very overweight. And your father died of a heart attack at age fifty-one. You've really got to cut down on the carbs and start exercising." . . . Sounds bad. But you want a second opinion. So you to to another doctor. "Oh, boy!" says the second doctor. "I see here your father died of a heart attack at about your age. You'd be insane not to go on a diet and start working out. And for godsakes, quite smoking!" . . . Not what you wanted to hear. SO you schedule another appointment. . . . "Oh my God!" says the third doctor. "It's amazing you're still alive! It would be irresponsible of me not to send you right away to this well-being center at Duke for a ninety-day stay!" . . . Well, that certainly seems like a drag. So you schedule another appointment, and then another, and then another. After thirty-two opinions, you're still not happy. But then you see the thirty-third doctor. It's taken a while to schedule all these appointments, so by now you've gained so much weight that you have to go around in one of those motorized carts. . . "It's a good thing you came to me," the thirty-third doctor says. "I'm sure other doctors have been telling you to do all kinds of ridiculous stuff. Well, I'm here to tell you to keep doing exactly what you've been doing. Keep smoking! Watch a little more TV. And eat more fast food! Did you see Carl's Jr. now has thi sandwich where the entire bun is made out of cheese? You see, those other doctors are in the pocket of Big Fresh Fruits and Vegetables." . . . Republicans know that if they concede what climate scientists, the Defense Department, the Muppets, and virtually every other country in the world know - that global warming is real, that it is man-made, and that it is the greatest current threat to global prosperity and stability - the Koch brothers will spend money against them to fund a primary challenge. This goes double for Republicans from conservative states. They know from the experience of their defeated colleagues that the Koch brothers will primary them if they stray from the climate denial orthodoxy, and that the biggest threat to their reelection comes not from Democrats, but from being outflanked to the right by their own party. . . Denial . . .

(from http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2016/jul/06/17-things-donald-trump-said-and-then-denied-saying/)
". . . John McCain is not a war hero . . . "Four times, I said he is a hero," he said on July 19 on ABC.  . . Trump said, "He is a war hero because he was captured." In other words, Trump also cherry-picked his interview and misquoted himself. . .

Calling women ‘fat pigs,’ ‘dogs,’ ‘slobs’ and ‘disgusting animals’. . . at the first GOP presidential debate in August 2015. . . "Well, some of the things that she (Megyn Kelly) said, I didn't say, okay?" Trump said on Meet the Press. . .

Implying China was part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership . . . When asked about the pending trade deal with 12 Pacific Rim nations at a Republican primary debate in Milwaukee, Trump took to bashing China. . . "You know, we might want to point out that China’s not part of this deal," quipped former rival Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. But a day later, Trump denied suggesting China was a signatory. . .

Using a curse word to describe Ted Cruz . .  . Trump denied using "a very bad word" — a synonym for cat — at a rally in Manchester, N.H., and demanded an apology from Bloomberg’s Mark Halperin for suggesting he had done so. . . .(but) There’s video evidence. An audience member called Trump rival Ted Cruz a slur for a woman. Trump repeated the p---- word after telling fans it was a "terrible" word in mock outrage. . .

As Democrats mounted efforts to pass gun control legislation in the wake of the Orlando shooting, Trump brought up the proverbial "good guy with a gun" argument, which goes that mass casualties could have been avoided if one civilian in the club were armed. . . Under scrutiny for his comment, Trump insisted he meant armed security, not clubgoers. . . In an interview on CNN, Trump said armed "people" in general, possibly exercising concealed carry, could have prevented the tragedy, and he ignored a reporter when she pointed out that there was an armed security guard in the club. . .

On having one of the world’s best memories . . . To cap it all, Trump ironically can’t remember bragging about his memory as revealed in his deposition for a Trump University lawsuit. Here’s what he said, according to transcript released in late June:
"Q. You’ve stated though, that you have one of the best memories in the world?
A. I don’t know. Did I use that expression?
Q. Yes.
A. Where? Could I see it?
Q. I can play the video of you reporting it.
A. Did I say I have a great memory or one of the best in the world.
Q. "One of the best in the world" is what the reporter quoted you as saying
A. I don’t remember saying that. As good as my memory is, I don’t remember that, but I have a good memory." . . . "

". . . Attorney General Jeff Sessions's spokeswoman released a statement . . . after The Washington Post reported Sessions had spoken twice with Russia's ambassador last year — contacts he failed to disclose in his confirmation hearings. . .“I never met with any Russian officials to discuss the issues of the campaign,” Sessions said. “I have no idea what this allegation is about. It is false.”. . .This is a remarkably misleading non-denial denial. Sessions, in the course of three sentences, manufactures a straw man, props him up and then knocks him down. He is denying a report that doesn't exist. . ."

Acknowledgement . . .

You can’t solve a problem until you admit the existence of the problem.  How often does a problem just go away? You can  always ignore a problem, but that won't resolve the problem. If denial is your first resort, excuses will probably be your second. After you admit there is a problem, you can explore resolving it. Without problems, there is no life. If you can’t face problems, those problems will recur. As the old adage states, you can't continue to do the same thing repeatedly and expect to get different results.

Frightening. . .

. . . but true? . . . Is it any more unbelievable that what we were told????
(from http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/2012/11/26/the-osama-bin-laden-myth/)
". . . The interview below with Osama bin Laden was conducted by the Karachi, Pakistan, daily newspaper, Ummat and published on September 28, 2001, 17 days after the alleged, but unsubstantiated, al Qaeda attack of September 11, 2001, on the World Trade Center twin towers and Pentagon. The interview was sensational. The alleged “mastermind” of 9/11 said that he and al Qaeda had nothing to do with the 9/11 attack. The British Broadcasting Corporation’s World Monitoring Service had the interview translated into English and made public on September 29, 2001.

Osama bin Laden’s sensational denial was not reported by the US print and TV media. It was not investigated by the executive branch. No one in the US Congress called attention to bin Laden’s refusal of responsibility for the greatest humiliation ever inflicted on a superpower.

To check my memory of the lack of coverage, I googled “Osama bin Laden’s interview denying responsibility for 9/11.” Some Internet sites reproduced the interview, but the only mainstream news source that I found was a 1 minute YouTube video from CNN in which the anchor, after quoting an al Jazeera report of bin Laden’s denial, concludes that “we can all weigh that in the scale of credibility and come to our own conclusions.” In other words, bin Laden had already been demonized, and his denial was not credible. . . "

No, it couldn't be . . .

. . . could it????

(from Wikipedia.com)
Denial (also called abnegation) is a defense mechanism postulated by Sigmund Freud, in which a person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence. The subject may use:
The concept of denial is particularly important to the study of addiction. The theory of denial was first researched seriously by Anna Freud. She classified denial as a mechanism of the immature mind, because it conflicts with the ability to learn from and cope with reality. Where denial occurs in mature minds, it is most often associated with death, dying and rape. More recent research has significantly expanded the scope and utility of the concept. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross used denial as the first of five stages in the psychology of a dying patient, and the idea has been extended to include the reactions of survivors to news of a death. Thus, when parents are informed of the death of a child, their first reaction is often of the form, "No! You must have the wrong house, you can't mean our child!"

(from me. . . )
Additional examples of commonly denied facts:

   * the popular conservative presidential candidate this year has little to no footing in the real social world choosing instead to prescribe to an ancient, archaic and tribal concept of religion which divides (in that anyone who disagrees with that concept is branded as 'prosecutorial') the public
   * every human being deserves respect and equal rights and protection under the law [in spite of personal social or religious bias based upon ancient. . . (see above)]
   * the current global economic conditions are a result of more than eight years of deregulation and abuse and no human being currently in office is or could possibly be capable of undoing what has taken that long to do
   *  and. . . .
