Maybe . . .

. . . when hell looks like this . . .

(from https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/roger-stone-back-court-after-instagram-post-n973986)
". . . "I am hurtfully sorry for my own stupidity. I am kicking myself not as much as my wife is kicking me," Stone told the court. He called the Instagram post "a momentary lapse of judgement" and said he was was struggling from the stress of the prosecution. . . I heard political commentators talking about the likelihood that I'll be raped in prison. It's been a stressful situation. I’m having a hard time putting food on the table and making rent," he said. . .The photo, posted to (Roger) Stone’s Instagram account earlier this week, was accompanied by a caption in which he suggested Jackson was politically biased, slammed Robert Mueller's Russia probe and sought donations for his legal defense. . ."

Are You . . .

. . . STILL a fan? . . .

(from http://washingtonsources.org/trump-if-soldiers-were-real-patriots-they-wouldnt-take-a-pay-raise/)
". . . Trump spoke to troops at Fort Drum in advance of a signing ceremony for the 2019 national defense authorization, which includes a 2.6 percent pay raise for the troops. . . “We are proudly giving our troops the biggest pay increase in a decade,” Trump said. “I know you don’t want it because you’re very patriotic. You’ll say, just save the money. We’re going to pay down debt.”. . . Then Trump awkwardly launched into what perhaps was supposed to be a joke. Except the crowd didn’t seem to find it funny at all. . .“Does anybody not want it? Please raise your hand,” Trump he said. After scanning the crowd, he added, “What’s going on here? Are these real patriots? I don’t know, General. I don’t know. . . Perhaps Trump should spend less time “joking” about our troops and questioning their patriotism, and more time showing them the respect they deserve. . .”

Happy . . .

. . . about all this? . . .

(from http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/first-read/trump-s-budget-much-his-agenda-still-stuck-mud-n734286)
". . . the budget boosts Defense Department spending by $54 billion (or by 10%); it cuts the State Department by 28% and the Environmental Protection Agency by 25%; it provides $1.5 billion for construction of Trump's wall; it eliminates funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting; and it all fails to balance the budget in the process.. . The problem? "It's dead on arrival," Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) . . . And what about presenting evidence to prove his claim that Barack Obama tapped Trump Tower? "Let's see whether or not I proved it," he said on Fox News . . . "You looked at some proof. I mean, let's see whether or not I prove it. I just don't choose to do it right now." In fact, the top Republican and Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said there is no evidence<http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/house-intel-committee-still-no-evidence-trump-tower-wiretap-n733886> that Obama did what Trump originally tweeted<http://www.nbcnews. com/news/us-news/trump-accuses-obama-wiretapping-residence-during-campaign-n729056>. "Are you going to take the tweets literally? And if you are, then clearly the president was wrong," Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) said. . ."

It's OK . . .

. . . to change your mind. . .
(from http://wallstreetonparade.com/2016/02/new-york-times-rethinks-hillary-clinton-for-president/)
". . . One month ago, the Old Gray Lady (the New York Times) said that Democratic primary voters “have the chance to nominate one of the most broadly and deeply qualified presidential candidates in modern history.” . . . Last Friday, the same editorial board at the New York Times that had endorsed Hillary Clinton less than a month earlier, compared her to a “mischievous child.” The Times wrote: “ ‘Everybody does it,’ is an excuse expected from a mischievous child, not a presidential candidate. But that is Hillary Clinton’s latest defense for making closed-door, richly paid speeches to big banks, which many middle-class Americans still blame for their economic pain, and then refusing to release the transcripts.” . . ."

Reading . . .

. . . the faces . . .

Maybe it's me.  The stories of Chuck Hagel's resignation and speculation about the reasons has been varied, believable and interesting.  They've even been uncharacteristically (for the press) objective.
All sound plausible from McCain's explanation that the administration micromanages and that Hagel, like his predecessors felt they were inhibited to the administration rep's comments on Hagel not being up to the job.

The photo above right is the more interesting of the two but the one left is there purely for contrast. Whatever the mutual feeling on the left, (when Panetta left and Hagel joined) all appear relaxed and, for lack of a more descriptive term:  happy.  The one right clearly portrays something practically opposite happy.  And while the resignation of a cabinet officer is certainly not a happy occasion.  But I detect in the one on the right, something more;  deeper.  Maybe the version that Hagel was forced out?

NOT . . .

. . . because of skin color, not because he wasn't 'tough' enough with Putin, not because of the ACA (well, maybe that one too- but not for the popularly held conservative reasons), not because he uses a teleprompter, not because he spoke to elementary schoolers standing on a 'my ABCs' carpet. . .

NO. . . but this president concerns me because. . .

(from http://rt.com/usa/obama-ndaa-detention-president-288/)
". . . President Barack Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013 . . . giving his stamp of approval to a Pentagon spending bill that will keep Guantanamo Bay open and make indefinite detention for US citizens as likely as ever.

The president inked his name to the 2013 NDAA . . . to little fanfare, and accompanied his signature with a statement condemning a fair number of provisions contained in a bill that he nevertheless endorsed.

The NDAA, an otherwise mundane annual bill that lays out the use of funds for the Department of Defense, has come under attack during the Obama administration for the introduction of a provision last year that allows the military to detain United States citizens indefinitely without charge or trial for mere suspicions of ties to terrorism. Under the 2012 NDAA’s Sec. 1021, Pres. Obama agreed to give the military the power to arrest and hold Americans without the writ of habeas corpus, although he promised with that year’s signing statement that his administration would not abuse that privilege.

In response to the controversial indefinite detention provision from last year, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) introduced an amendment in December 2012 that would have forbid the government from using military force to indefinitely detain Americans without trial under the 2013 NDAA. Although that provision, dubbed the “Feinstein Amendment,” passed the Senate unanimously, a select panel of lawmakers led by Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Michigan) stripped it from the final version of the NDAA two week later before it could clear Congress. In exchange, Congress added a provision, Sec. 1029, that claims to ensure that “any person inside the United States” is allowed their constitutional rights, including habeas corpus, but supporters of the Feinstein Amendment say that the swapped wording does nothing to erase the indefinite detention provision from the previous year. . ."

Dear Senator. . .

. . . Mikulski,
I have chosen "Other" as my message topic because you list neither Syria nor War.  Your list does include "Defense" but nowhere do I see "Offense."

Writing to tell you that after my letter to you, pleading to disapprove of any military action against Syria, I just heard on the radio that you support the President's plan for military action.

I know you can't act based solely upon my advice, but after hearing that the majority of the U.S. population is against such military action in Syria, I can't help but think that you are ignoring the wishes of your constituents.

Can you please respond to this and provide an honest accounting of the opinions that you have received from the people you represent in the state of Maryland?

Thank you and best regards,
Raymond M. Jozwiak

Transparency. . .

?????

A U.S. special operations commander has ordered files about the raid and assassination of Osama Bin Laden sent to the CIA and purged from Defense Dept. records appearing to have bypassed federal rules and possibly the U.S. Freedom of Information Act. A CIA spokesman said it is "absolutely false" that records were moved to the CIA to avoid the legal requirements of the Freedom of Information Act. The records transfer was part of an effort to protect the names of the personnel involved in the raid, according to the inspector general's draft report.  Moving those records did allow the Pentagon to tell The Associated Press that it couldn't find any documents inside the Defense Department when the latter had requested them more than two years ago, and would represent a new strategy for the U.S. government to shield even its most sensitive activities from public scrutiny.  (Thanks to http://investigations.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/07/08/19353473-pentagon-secretly-moved-bin-laden-raid-files-to-keep-them-from-public?lite)

My View. . .

I could be wrong, and I certainly am no lawyer, but it seems to me that in the George Zimmerman  murder trial,  some of the defense's arguments are just plain missing the point.  If Trayvon Martin  actually texted someone in the past about purchasing a weapon, does that mean he deserved to die?
If Trayvon Martin actually had traces of marijuana in his system, does that mean he deserved to die?  If Trayvon Martin was on top of George Zimmerman at some point in the scuffle, does that mean he deserved to die?  George Zimmerman was intentionally following Trayvon Martin for a period of time.  When the two finally clashed, Trayvon Martin actually put up a fight. Does that mean Trayvon Martin deserved to die?

In many photos of George Zimmerman, he appears to be introspective to the point of remorse.  The entire situation was most certainly unfortunate, to say the least.  Maybe the prosecution was overzealous in seeking a second-degree murder charge?

And without a doubt in my mind, Florida's 'Stand Your Ground' (or as I prefer 'The Cowboy Law') is one of the most stupid laws of which I have EVER heard!
