Another . . .

. . . day at the beach
I'm just not sure which
Is it Sunday or Saturday?
Or maybe Monday?
It really doesn't matter at all
And not because I do not care!
It's because regardless of what
The calendar says
This day is brand new
And beautiful
And brings with it the promise
Of many and new opportunities
To live, love, create, enjoy, ruminate
Or, conversely, do nothing
Absolutely nothing
In any case, it's beginning now
As you can see
And I intend to make the very best of it
As I will do again tomorrow

Tubing . . .

I create original solo instrumental - and occasionally including a 'virtual' ensemble - piano melodies that are unique, fluid, refined, rhythmic and feature jazz-inflected improvisation.  I also contribute to the OHO musical collective. My ten recorded releases (from between 2003 and 2016 - see https://store.cdbaby.com/Artist/RayJozwiak) contain positive, infectious music that can be enjoyed through active listening or simply used for background. I have come to the realization that my personal taste in music (as well as most other things) does not fall in line with that of the public in general. I demure from usage (or acceptance) of the word ""genius"" when reference is being made to an artist or entertainer (athlete, novelist, statesman etc.) I laud anyone who creates art (entertainment) from their very own personal experience and will defend its validity as a wholly human prerogative.  Please also see my 'More OHO Music' and 'Ray Jozwiak - Gonzo Piano' channels.

Caught . .

Sometimes the story behind a song, speaking strictly of MY songs, is not much of a story. 'Caught' is one such song.  There are times when I must force myself to write a song, or to finish a song, or take the initiative to create something new, at least something with a bit of structure. 'Caught' was inspired by the music of a local, original group which features tight, percussive acoustic guitar and lots of percussion, somewhat reminiscent of Ani DiFranco's music. The phrase 'caught in the crosshairs', which opens the song, sounded 'tough' and fit rhythmically with the type of song I wanted to write. The lyrics developed into a reflection on 'the drama of life'. Of course I always take the opportunity to provide myself some freedom to improvise within a 'welcoming' (meaning chord progression) environment. A loose version of the tune is here for you to hear. . .
