Moment . . .

Hey you down there on the ground
Don’t you think that it’s time
You should fly
And do you consider the cost
Of the pride that you wear
Like a smile

Take this moment
You’ve got here
You may not
Get another try
Sometimes only
One chance comes around
At a time

It’s two that’s the number required
For the dance that we do
To get by
A few drag you into the mire
But they’re strong
Many wiles they devise

Doomed if you don’t learn
Farce is what you earn from the tragedy
What have we to gain
By being stubborn?

New. . .

Hey you down there on the ground
Don't you think that it's time you should fly?
And do you consider the cost
Of the pride that you wear like a smile?

Take this moment you've got here
You may not get another try
Some things only come around
One time us to unite

The Value. . .

. . . of a life . . .

Patients infected with Hepatitis C suffer and  anticipate an early death.  Until recently, no 'cure' was possible.  Now, there IS hope.  What is stopping the treatment of these patients?  What is standing between life and death for sufferers of Hepatitis C? . . . you guessed it. . .

(from http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2014/05/12/307747798/boomers-need-pricey-hep-c-drugs-but-medicare-wont-always-pay)
". . .These new drugs are curing more than 90 percent of patients – virtually 100 percent in some . Just a few years ago, cure rates were 50 percent or less.

But there's a big problem: The cost.  Timothy Webb and other advocates protest the cost of HIV drugs manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Gilead outside an AIDS conference in Atlanta in March. Gilead is making a new hepatitis C drug, Sovaldi. . . " which costs $1,000 per pill.

". . . Sovaldi combined with another new drug called (Olysio) is highly effective in patients like (Walter) Bianco.  And the new drugs are easy to take. Bianco says the older drugs caused horrible side effects. "Just terrible itching, terrible headaches, nausea," he says.

But Medicare won't pay for the drugs that Vargas says Bianco needs.  Medicare officials wouldn't comment on coverage of new hep C drugs. A spokesman says the federal program turns such decisions over to private insurers that administer .

One of those private insurers has twice rejected Vargas's prescription because the Food and Drug Administration hasn't approved use of the two drugs in combination. (Last week Olysio's maker, the FDA for approval of the regimen.). . . "

Who. . .

. . . said this?

“I think this is absolutely crazy. Why would you want to increase the cost of energy and kill more American jobs at a time when the American people are still asking where are the jobs? Clear enough?”
If you guessed John Boehner, 61st and current Speaker of the United States House of Representatives,  member of the Republican Party,  U.S. Representative from Ohio's 8th congressional district,  government crybaby and leader of all job makers, who by the way, don't really make many jobs, you are correct.

Up . . .

(from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee PAC)
"The president is set to include a major Social Security benefit cut in his budget on Wednesday. President Obama is proposing the so-called chained CPI, which would cut cost-of-living adjustments for grandparents and veterans.

Tuesday, April 9th -- at 12:30PM EST, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee PAC is going to deliver hundreds of thousands of petitions directly to the White House telling Obama: No cuts to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits. "

Seems to me that is cost-of-living increases can be cut from benefits, (to which, by the way, anyone working in the U.S. contributes throughout his working life) the president must write INTO law that the cost of living can no longer GO UP!   Seems only fair.

Now that. . .

. . . the election is finally over.  One estimate said the presidential campaigns costs a combined total of $2.5 billion.  I don't know why people brush off billions whenever I ask about saving such sums as the campaign expense.  I know the national deficit is in trillions but, as Senator Everett McKinley Dirksen said, “A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you're talking real money."  The campaign expenses are particularly irksome to me because they are purely showbiz.  Dispensing facts to the general public in print or online, for example, would be infinitely less expensive than the hateful and reality-challenged television ads the two major candidates ran.

And though we are left with a president who exhibits some leaning toward integrity, albeit not fully realized when applicable to the U.S. (and world also, for that matter) citizenry, and not with one who not only ignores the needs of the preponderance of the planet's population but also lives in a fantasy, pre-scientific world landscaped with hundred-dollar bills (or are they thousands?) - I don't really think all our problems are solved.

Which leads me back to Rocky (Anderson, that is):  ". . . The government is shafting the people of this country. It doesn’t matter which party is the majority, they’re all feeding at the same trough of special interest money and we, the American people, are suffering from it. We’re in the midst of a new Gilded Age, with a greater disparity between income and wealth since the 1920s and the highest poverty rates since 1965. It’s as if all the gains of the war on poverty have disappeared. That along with our outrageous healthcare system, including Obamacare, results in incredible suffering, including the loss of tens if not hundreds of thousands of lives every year. . ."

So even though the election is over, there is still much work to be done.

It really would be prudent . . .

. . . donchathink?

(from the Justice Party)
The cost of a college education is rising at an average rate of around 6% annually and is expected to grow at this rate for the foreseeable future. Total college loan debt now tops the $1 trillion mark. A college education validates itself in lifetime earnings, but paying off the debt can take decades to achieve. More and more, only the affluent can afford a higher education. Deserving middle-class and poor students are increasingly unable to follow their dreams.

While the Republicans and Democrats quibble about just how much debt college students should carry and at what interest rate, we believe that higher education should be funded as part of the public education system. Educating our citizens and future leaders without mortgaging their futures should be a top national priority.

"Government has an enormous role in education--and it has not been doing a good job in recent times. Funding for education, from pre-school through higher education, is essential if we are to break the cycle of poverty for millions of people in the U.S. and prepare our students to compete with students throughout the world. Just as government moved our nation forward by committing to provide free secondary education, so too should we commit to providing a higher education for capable students."
-- Rocky Anderson, Justice Party nominee for President

Flourishing democracies--and robust economies--require educated citizens. It is unfair for the next generation of young people to mortgage their futures so our society can benefit from their knowledge while they languish in debt.

Sign the petition for College Debt Independence!

The time is right to bring higher education into the public education system just as we have done with primary and secondary education.
